Atec 321 Faeta - UL for gliders towing

Recently, the new version of Atec 321 Faeta equipped with newly developped towing gear was officialy stated as the aircraft which is qualified for towing gliders and consequently the official certification was issued by Czech aviation authority.

Strenght tests were successfully performed in Atec workshop according to LAA (Czech Light aircraft association) methodics. Then we followed with towing tests together with Blaník L13 glider. Our Faeta passed both tests with success. In early time we plan to make additional tests with heavier gliders so (650 kg of take-off weight).

So we actually enlarged our offer to Faeta towing version providing a wider range of use to our clients. We suppose these additional using possibilities of ideal modern touristic aircraft could be appreciated by individuals same as by aeroclubs due to its very low operating costs comparing to usual towing aircrafts.

The towing version is equipped with towing gear which is connected to TOST E 85 release mechanism, then with towing rope release lever and rear mirror (easy demountable) mounted on fuselage enabling towed glider monitoring. The aircraft can also be alternatively equipped with the latest version of digital Integra combined instrument system including camera built in the rare part of fuselage. This enables comfortable glider monitoring on Integra´s screen.

The Rotax 912S UL engine with maximum power of 73,5 kW when 5800 rpm and max. continuous power of 69 kW when 5500 rpm serves as towing drive unit. The aircraft is equipped with 3-blades Fiti Ecocompetition fix propeller of 1,63m diameter. As to assure more efficient engine cooling, the additional oil radiator including independent NACA inlet and oil circuit thermostat is installed.

Take-off distance lenght with glider of 650kg MTOW: 500 m
Altitude reached after 600m from start point: 17 m
Maximum climbing rate with glider of 650kg MTOW: 1,5 m/s
Optimum speed of towing (depending on glider type): 100 - 120 km/h (55 - 65 kt)
Average fuel consumption when towing: 15 - 18 l/h
Maximum range of flight with max. fuel level of 70l when towing: 450 km

Starting and take-off distance lenght of aero-tow can be prolonged of 15% in case of high grass on runway or rain.

Performances listed are considered when 650 kg of take-off weight and can be different depending on flight performances and characteristics of towed glider.
